FLOC aka For Love of Children is using education to empower many area young people and their families and helping to close society's achievement gap. Since its founding in 1965, For Love of Children's mission has been to offer educational services that equip high-risk children and youth with the skills necessary to break the cycle of poverty, become life-long learners, and make substantial contributions to their communities.

The three main ways FLOC supports child development:
    1)     Neighborhood Tutoring Programs  – FLOC offers nearly 300 one-on-one tutors per year to youth in the metro DC area.
    2)     Outdoor Education Center and Leadership Challenge  – FLOC has an outdoor education center where DC youth can safely challenge themselves, build confidence and hone their leadership skills
    3)     FLOC Scholars Program – Once FLOC builds the basics, they help their students prepare and matriculate to college or university.  They even have a scholarship fund to help some students financially

If you love EDUCATION, you will love FLOC.  If you love helping kids, you will love FLOC.  If you love the outdoors, you will love FLOC.

To race for this cause, Register for Acumen's Race for a Cause 8k, this December, and choose For the Love of Children as the non-profit you are supporting.
